Throughout the poem, I could sense that the writer seems to be addressing old memories that they have with someone who is no longer present in their life. The background used for the poem is a picture taken during nighttime which helps makes me feel like the poem is conveying darkness which I really like.

Absolutely adore it loop, we should write our book together now 🙂

The speaker is appreciative of the wind chimes. They are happy to be able to listen to them and enjoy their music. It’s like a lullaby to go to sleep at night before bed. They use the wind chimes as a portal to remind them of memories of a person they can’t seem to forget, until the wind chimes go out.

The repeated imagery of the windchimes works to bookend this poem in a satisfying way. When I started reading it had a calming effect because I associate windchimes with peace and relaxation. But by the end of the poem the revisit of the windchimes brought both a finality to your dwelling on the experience and changed my mood to be more melancholy and reflective. Limiting this poem to one stanza works to communicate the message that this experience with loss – loss of love, loss of a relationship? – is something that you can’t escape but that you do not want to spend too much time rehashing. On the surface the poem may seem to be about the speaker lying in bed and reliving memories, but it also communicates messages about resilience, about letting go and moving on, about giving yourself time and space to live in the past but not letting that overtake you emotionally. It feels sad on the surface, but on rereading it also feels empowering. The speaker is able to stop the cycle of the bad memories with the conclusion of the wind chimes.
